SUMMER MIX 2011: WE ARE ALL OUR HANDS AND HOLDERS
First, yes, I am aware that it is slightly late in the game to just now be posting a summer mix. In my defense, though, I offer up the fact that I live just outside of Seattle, an area where, as of today, the temperature has only crept past 80 degrees for 78 total minutes in the entirety of 2011. Yes, while all the rest of you are having your record summer heat waves, we here in Western Washington are experiencing anything but. Moderate, mildly warm days wherein one can actually see the sun for several hours are the good days; the overcast, drizzly days where you can’t even take your kids to play outside at the park are the bad (and far too common) ones. The twenty-seventh time you hear a joke about the lack of a true summer, it ceases to be funny. It’s not like this every year - or even most years - but this year it is.
So, I’m offering up this year’s Summer Mix to the gods of weather as both a thank-you (it was actually sunny today! We went to a park!) and a plea (more sun, more warmth, more summer, please!). It’s a lot to put on the shoulders of a mere mix, a single collection of 23 humble songs, and it remains to be seen whether it changes anything around here. Regardless, though, it’s something I put a good deal of time into, and I think you’ll enjoy, whatever your circumstances may be.
